2012 Hay Auction Schedule/Results
The Sheboygan County Forage Council announced that they will sponsor another season of monthly hay auctions from December through April at Chissy’s Restaurant in Waldo. The auctions however will no longer be quality tested. The first of five auctions will be held Wednesday, December 14, with the remaining four auctions to be held the second Wednesday of each month through April 2012.
“Improving grain prices, changing forage needs, and the on-going challenges of making high quality hay, have resulted in less hay being offered for sale. With the volume of hay for sale being down in recent years, it’s been harder to justify the cost and labor associated with quality tested auctions,” says Mike Ballweg, UW-Extension Crops & Soils Agricultural Agent. The non-tested auction however will continue to provide a local market for buyers and sellers of hay.
Hay for sale needs to be at the auction site by 11:30 a.m. Sale begins at 12:00 Noon, not 1:00 p.m. as in the past.
For information on selling or buying hay at the auction, contact Mike Ballweg at Sheboygan County UW-Extension, at (920) 459-5904. The auction facility is located near the intersection of Hwy. 28 and Hwy. 57.
